The benefits of switching from BYOD to COPE include increased data security, reduced telecom expense (in both operating and device expenses) and enhanced employee productivity and satisfaction (when provided a device of their choice).

Both approaches to telecom management have risks and liabilities when allowing employees to use their devices for personal use. Addressing and clearly defining the challenges and solutions will allow for a better experience for both the business and their employees. o financial burden on the employee in the event the device needs replacement

o limited ability to achieve competitive pricing on consumer plans

o not sharing group plan resources

o discrepancies on charges incurred

o administration of expensing

COPE (Corporately Owned Personally Enabled) - Expense

o employers are required to provide devices and replace as required

o employers should provide accessories to reduce device damage and increase employee safety (hands free if required for driving)

o employees keeping within their allotted plan provisions*

o roaming without authorization*

o employees being responsible, or not for excessive personal usage resulting in additional charges

o unauthorized employee app purchases
